Opportunity Village receives three-year CARF accreditation

The Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF) granted Opportunity Village a three-year accreditation for services to individuals with disabilities, based on an on-site survey by three professionals in November.

CARF is an independent, non-profit agency that sets national standards for facilities like the Village. In its survey at Opportunity Village, the organization surveyed programs and services including community employment (employment supports and job development), community integration and organizational employment services. The accreditation process helps the Village continue to improve its services and qualify for funding.

CARF cited 12 specific strengths in the way the Village delivers the aforementioned services. Strengths included the Village’s maintenance department, investment in technology, satisfaction of families of individuals supported, dedication of staff and strong, positive relationships between the Village and local funding and referral sources.

The report made three recommendations for improvements, pertaining to the designation of a corporate compliance officer; further development of individualized, measurable objectives and employment goals on life plans for individuals served; and training strategies for community employment.

Overall, the Village was reported to be in “substantial conformance to the CARF standards.”

“Opportunity Village is a well-led and ably-managed organization,” the CARF report said. “The persons served appear to be happy with and clearly benefit from its quality programs and services. The staff members are well-aware of the mission and effectively accomplish it. The forward-thinking organization is focused on helping the persons served maximize their independence and experience life in the community.”

Village services have been accredited by CARF since first seeking that standard in the 1980s.
